This article is the seventh and last post under the series HOW TO BUILD YOUR RESUME
I remember the first rejection of my life when I applied for an internship in the first year of my graduation. After a lot of research and consultation, I concluded this was on account of my poor resume. I believe that the first impression is often the most lasting one. So I needed to work hard on my resume to not only make it stand out from the crowd but also to make sure that it is RELEVANT to the role.
In later years of graduation, I attended several workshops and seminars for campus placements preparation. This helped me in collating important points for designing and customizing a resume, and eventually in getting great internship opportunities.
The purpose of the resume is to tell your story and describe your capabilities in the way that is most beneficial to you and meaningful to employers. So, based on the jobs you apply to, you need to bring out different points in your profile. Engineering students can follow these tips to customize their resume:
For MNCs like Accenture, Infosys, TCS etc: Emphasize on Internship or Projects done while engineering.
For Frontend/Backend DeveloperJobs: Focus on the languages that you have learned during engineering.
For Core JobsElectrical/Mechanical: Focus more on Technical Papers presented at different conferences or any internship done in core technical fields.
For Technical Support Jobs: Focus on points where you can showcase your good communication skills such as if you have organized any fest or conducted any event in college.
For Social Media Analyst jobs: Focus on the Pages or Groups that you have managed on social media platform, be thorough with SEO and SEM concepts.
For Designing Jobs: Focus on showing the designing internship that you have done or some independent projects that you have taken.
