8 Awesome Start-Ups Founded By Engineers
After people study Engineering and step out of their Institutes with a degree in hand, many of them end up in fields like Civil Engineering, Automobile Engineering or, obviously, IT. However, many well-known Entrepreneurs that India has seen come from an engineering background too, and they have contributed to making the start-up scene sexy. Some of these start-ups know well. Others are quite unique.
For example, an App called YourQuote which is an app that “Makes you write”. YourQuote was founded by Harsh Snehanshu and Ashish Singh- both of from Engineering backgrounds. This app post prompts every day, which helps people write poetry. They believe in Democratization of poetry and have given a platform to various writers out there who are free to write in regional languages, too. It promotes Spoken Word Poetry and hence has recently come out with a feature that enables Spoken Word Poets to record and post videos. The folks at YourQuote shoot Spoken Word videos in their office and put them up on YouTube and besides all this, they conduct Open Mics all over the country and hence live up to their ideology of expanding the reach of poetry.
The Viral Fever is a digital channel which was created for the purpose of entertaining the masses. It was started by Arunabh Kumar, who has an engineering background. Such a platform is perfect for millennials who rarely ever get time to sit in front of the TV. TVF made entertainment a click away by coming up with Web Series like Permanent Roommates and TVF Tripling. The founder claimed in an interview that he used to change his career goals every semester during his college years.
RedBus changed the face of traveling for a lot of people with efficient services. It is an online ticketing platform for bus travels and to top that, the discount is provided on hotel bookings. redBus was founded by Phanindra Reddy Sama. What inspired him was his inability to find a ticket to Hyderabad during a long Diwali weekend in 2005.
Quikr is a platform that brought classified ads under one roof. It enables people to advertise for free and bridges the gap between buyers and sellers. It was founded by Pranay Chulet who pursued his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi and MBA from IIM Calcutta.
PayTM has been the knight in shining armor for many people, especially during the phase of demonetization. It is a digital wallet that has to be linked to a bank account and from a street food vendor to a top-notch businessman, everyone uses it today. It made the whole concept of transactions fairly easy for the masses. It was founded by Vijay Shekhar Sharma who comes from an engineering background.
Snapdeal is an online shopping platform that made purchasing easier and extended its power to the comfort of homes. From gadgets to clothes, everything can be bought from the site. It was founded by Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal, both engineers.
While everything today has come to exist in the digital realm, Sumit Jain, Lalit Mangal, and Vikas Malpani decided that Real Estate should not be left behind and hence, brought it to click away from people. Commonfloor is a real estate portal made for the purpose of buying, renting and selling properties online. Its motto is You are Home. No darr find ghar!
While some people are comfortable following instructions and carrying out plans, there are also those who do not like working with other people.
