YO can easily expect operations roles.. 20+ months work ex is apt :) OPtion of marketing field closing with 20+ months of work ex is a myth.

A year away? At iim Indore, you can spend 1 trimester as part if the exchange program. Fee would remain the same. BUt you will have to pay extra for your stay, food, travel etc.

i've a query regarding IIMs specialisation, Is there such thing as preference of certain iim for certain kind of roles by companies. like say IIM C for Finance roles. If yes, could you suggest some iims good for Finance

Not like that. It s just that maybe placements in that domain is better/ faculty are better. BUt end of the day i feel it is all the same. It is all about how well you can utilise your time and resources well to build a good profile. Because the companies come to the top old iims for recruitment based on your profile and not lik efinance placements happens only in IIM c and not IIM k ..

haha ! see its all up to us and how we choose to spend time. We are all adults and it is our choice. Maybe in term one you might have your seniors conducting placement prep sessions. Since they are free at nigh, you might have late night session. Other than that, it is upto you on how you wanna spend your time to finish off assignments etc.

Is it true that it's impossible almost to get in fin. either in summer placements or in the final placements without CFA/FRM. or relevant work ex. are there substantial students who got into without the above credentials. and what's your take on, leaving campus placements and trying off-campus

Where are you reading up things like this? It s all a myth. SO many who have no CFA/FRM got placed in top notch fin companies like Goldman, JPMC etc. Well, give your best for on campus placements. Only at the last resort try for off campus is what i would say. Try to leverage on the campus placements as much as you can. Unless, for instance if your like a CFA -3 and you are not getting any finance shortlists, try off campus.

I have done my training as a GET in my company's headquarters, Japan. Other than this, 1 certi of organiser at college level Social event and completed one course at Toastmasters International. Is this enough as extra curriculars? Is there anything which I can do in the remaining time of 4-5 months assuming I make into IIM?

try taking up certifications. And when you join MBA, take up positions of responsibility. This will not guarantee you a sure shot top placement, but yes from your side it is good to keep learning. And try to dig out all other acheivements that you have. and do not worry, once you join your MBA col, you will be assigned to buddies who will help you enhance your resume :)

Laterals are skewed towards Consulting, Fin-tech BUt there are instances of freshers getting placed as well. It all depends on the company. They have their own means and criteria for shortlisting. AT times they specify 22 months of minimum work ex, and sometimes they do not have such a cut off.

One last question- as mentioned above, 20month exp in production firm as supply chain manager. What are my chances in domains of finance, consulting, marketing, operations, supply chain management, general management, Systems/IT and strategy? Please put them in descending order if you can. (i.e SCM> operations >x>y ....)

You have equal chances. FOr instance you are working as a supply chain manager in x industry. FOr placements, you can get placed in any domain in that industry or if you are inclined towards say banking, build up a good profile(with live projects etc.) and you should be able to get placed as such. and as i always say, summer placements cannot be predicted. Companies have different shortlisting criteria for each role each year.. so .. :)
