Ok, so I did full time coaching for 1 year during my first CAT attempt, after that I went for 2 more attempts and relied on online coaching to get the results.

Ask yourself – “Am I focused enough to take the course online?”, “Am I disciplined enough to do that?” or “Do I need the social structure that comes when I attend a weekend classroom program?”. to make this decision

According to you what is the average duration of preparation required(assuming preparing from scratch) to get a decent score in CAT?

Depends on the existing level of the student, people from IIT, NIT tend to clear CAT while preparing for shorter durations (since they are already good in maths) while other might need some more time. On an average 1 year with good amount of preparation should be sufficient.
