Hi. With around 30-40 days left for the percentiles and interview calls shortlist to come, what do you recommend that a student who feels that he has a good chance of getting a call should be doing at the moment ?

Hi.. First and foremost, prepare for the interviews.. I hope by now you must have figured out a strategy to prepare.. If not, then the following regime might be suggested for you: 1. Keep yourself abreast of current affairs, specially the ones which have economic impact 2. Get answers to some critical questions as why you want to do MBA, identify your skills vs the skill gaps which you may want to fill through MBA and explain how MBA will help you out 3. Refresh your knowledge of undergrad study and work experience. There are high chances you might be asked the same.

The courses I am about to suggest depend upon the specialization you might want to choose.. For example, if you are very sure of going for Finance, then you might consider opting for CFA Level 1 course.. It will offer a big boost to your profile and you can mention the same in your MBA interview as well.. If you want to opt for marketing, Go for Google Adwords.. There are materials and certifications available to explain the entire process to you.. For Quality Management enthusiasts, a course in 6 Sigma will be benefitial.. For Supply Chain people, you may consider studying for CPSM course of ISM and APICS course.. These are certifications.. You might wish to study basic courses on Quantitative Methods, probabilities, statistics in coursera or EdX and brush these concepts up prior to joining MBA classes.. You would benefit a lot and grasp the concepts well with minimum effort if you do so

The courses are meant to give your profile a boost.. If you don't opt for these courses, then it does not mean that you won't be fit or eligible for B-School

Best course will be Google Adwords.. Over there, they have quite a lot of courses, mainly for advertising and promotion among others.. Then to dig deep into research, you should try Google Analytics too

To do a general market research, you may take up Marketing specialization, where you will be taught market research in one of the terms in great detail.. Having said that, to get insights on other industries like Manufacturing and all, you need to do Strategy courses which deal with overall industry analysis.. These will also be taught in a few of the terms

I mentioned the industry analysis as a part of strategy.. It will cover overall financial industry too like Banks, Insurance and all.. However if you just want to focus on Finance, then there are subjects available in Finance itself which will teach you the mechanics like derivatives, trading, portfolio managment, valuation, etc..

Market Research in Marketing.. Industry Analysis in Strategy.. There are separate entities.. Try not to mix them up

For HR, some suggested certification courses might be TMI courses (various levels are there ranging from beginners to experts and offered across industry or Universities).. Also you might want to explore HRCI and SHRM courses designed for beginners

A suggestion.. Please don't do ALL the certifications in ALL the streams.. That would be counter productive and you might end up learning nothing.. It is better to focus on only those streams where your interest lies and you can connect the same with your profile.. A focused strategy is necessary to obtain the desired advantage
