Hello Mallela babu, I would suggest you to focus on Gk preparation since that's the game changer in TISSNET. Other sections are comparatively easy, if you have prepared for CAT then QA LR and VA RC should not be very hard

This is the 2016 Question paper for your reference : http://tiss.edu/uploads/files/TISSNET_2016_QP.pdf There will be a good mix of current affairs and static GK. Static GK consists of polity, history, geaography, environment and culture.

As many of you have questions on preparing for GK. I would say take a two pronged approach, first is about Current affairs, there's nothing better than reading newspapers, but for many of you who dont have the time to, you can refer to websites that post important current affairs from the perspective of competitive exams , some of the websites I used to refere are: https://www.gktoday.in/ http://www.gr8ambitionz.com/

    04:06 PM

Do mba from any iim in HR and ma in HR from TISS do both of have them same value

Can a bcom graduate with no work experience get into TISS?

    04:08 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Next coming to static part, one thing that aspirants have to undestand is static GK is also asked in realtion to current afairs, Eg. If 2017 is the birth centenary of a particular important historic personality, then you should definitely read up all about him, same goes for geography, if there was a particular geographic event that took place recently, you should read up about the event entirely

How to answer "why HR" question in pi??

    04:10 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Continuing about preparing for static GK, definitely read up about culture and religions

    04:11 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Geography - please read 11th NCERT geography, briefly.

    04:12 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Polity for GK focus on laws, legislations that are in News, some important parts of Constitution such as Fundamental rights, DPSP, important amendments to Constitution

    04:13 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

For History preparation I would suggest you to know the landmark events in India medieval and modern history. Same goes for independence movement also, know the important events and important personalities

    04:14 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

For World History focus on World Wars, famous World leaders

    04:15 PM

  • Profile Picture

    Only Indian static GK?

    04:15 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

World static GK is asked too, but it's not asked all that much. Geography is world and India obviously.

    04:16 PM

  • Profile Picture jabrukesh31

hi sasi, could you help us with cut-off for all categories in your year 2016 and if possible for 2017 as well (if in case you remember) ?

    04:16 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Another approach for GK is being able to guess intelligently, elimination of two option should be the first thing to do and then zeroing in on the right answer

    04:17 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Studying static GK of current affairs is smart approach

HRM&LR in TISS Mumbai is being offered since 1966-67. It's one of the oldest courses in India, with stellar placements each year. Except for IIM Ranchi, I dont know of other IIMs that offer a popular specialisation in HR ( they probably do offer, emphasis is on 'popular'). So HR from TISS> HR from IIM any day.

    WHY HR Question :

    04:27 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

    Answer

    04:27 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Why HR is a very important question for two reasons, first it's an important question that you should know an answer to yourself. As HRM&LR in TISS Mumbai is a specialized and focused course, it's important you know the reason why you are pursuing HR in the first place. Secondly, it's an important question for the interview panel to judge your interest in the course. A disinterest candidate is not going help anyone's cause neither the candidate's himself nor the Institute's Sincere suggestion don't look for straitjacketed standard answers for Why HR question. Interview panel will easily know that's not your real answer. Introspect and articulate why you want to actually pursue HR, also reflect on what you've done till date to understand why you want to do HR. Summarily, Why HR question answer is different for different people.

We have a vibrant campus life at TISS. 04:34 PM

    Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Considering the negligible fees that TISS has, staying outside in the first year is not at all a challenge, students who need financial support are provided hostel in 1st year also on submission of proof. Most 1st year students stay with 1-2 km radius of campus. The area in and around TISS is heavily populated by students, giving a different type of extended campus atmosphere to the colony surrounding TISS

Any final tip for preparation and strategy to attempt the test for maximizing the score?

    04:48 PM

    Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Attempt to score full marks in QA LR and VA RC sections. If you are weak in these areas, bwork hard and wnsure you get full marks in these two sections. GK focus on current affairs, since the breadth of current affairs is narrower than static GK. Guess intelligently in the exam

    04:50 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Around 800 students are called for interviews every year. The selection ratio hovers between 1:11 and 1:13

    04:51 PM

  • Profile Picture Pranjali Vartak

    Which topics come for essay?

    04:52 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Coming to packages being lower in HR versus other functions, when companies recruit at management trainee positions it has over the years become a norm to pay equally amonsgt all functions, especially if you are a student from premier college(like TISS and XLRI). There are some companies that do differentiate between different functions. In a supply chain focussed organization that would be the highest paid function, similarly in finance and NBFC companies finance would be highest paid. But in conglomerates, MNCS, FMCG companies there is disparity in entry level salaries offered

    04:54 PM

  • Profile Picture Sasi Priya Byra

Essay topics vary year on year, they could be HR based, then on social issues and current affairs. Social issues is usually a standard area from which essay questions are asked

    04:55 PM

  • Profile Picture jabrukesh31

    that helps regarding packages. thanks
