I want to know that if I take a drop, will i get better colleges' options if I get around 95 percentile, given my 12th is bad. Do I have hope i terms of colleges if i take a drop, given my 12th percentage.

Hi I have work experience of 2.5 years in electrical company as sales engineer. Want to do MBA in M&S . My academic percentage are as follows :- 1. B.Tech (Electrical ) - 74% 2. 12th - 67.4% 3. 10th - 70.86% I am planning to write CAT this year, so please suggest will be it fruitful to do or not and which college should I aim ?

@Sanjana: If you get very good percentile next year, say in range of 98+, then you will definitely have shot at way better colleges than you have now. If you can really pull your socks then a year of drop would be worth it.

@Shantanu singh: Given your 12th score, Old IIMs seems unlikely but even then you can aim at plethora of good colleges. New IIMS, MDI, SJSOM to name a few. MBA would give you a jump in your career and experience in sales would be very beneficial.

If you get 95%ile you will have a chance to convert IMT, IMI, DMS IIT Madras, Baby IIMs, IIT KGP(if you have studied maths or stats) and might get an MDI call too. It is a good tradeoff!

Your work-ex will matter not just for B-school selection but also further in summer/final placements. So in a way it would be around 15 months by June 2018.

If you are able to balance your prep with a job then it would be great. Else a year's drop wouldn't affect a lot just that you should be able to explain it in interview.

You are yet to graduate, so if you can take a shot at CAT/XAT or other exams again and work hard for it, then you can definitely get better colleges. If MBA this year is must then you can prefer NIBM Pune, NL Dalmia for ROI, IMT Nagpur & Welingkar for a brand name. To know more about these college, you can talk to current students and recent alums. All the best
