About CMAT: CMAT is a simple yet important exam essential to clear many top college such as KJ Somaiya, Great Lakes etc. It features 100 questions equally divided between verbal, quant, reasoning and general awareness. There is 1/4 negative marking. There has traditionally been no sectional cutoff in CMAT. CMAT tips: The level of the exam is easier than CAT and time pressure is low. 180 minutes for 100 questions is more than enough. There is plenty of time to pick and choose your questions with good accuracy and high number of attempts. Therefore focus during preparation should be on clearing basics. Analyze the last 4-5 CMATs to get an idea of the topics and level of questions. The cutoff is on the higher side because of easier level and ample amount of time.

XIMB considers CAT GMAT and XAT scores. GK XAT and essay writing components of XAT and GMAT are also considered. Do devote time to bothe GK and essays.

Also, XIMB second round has a writing ability test (WAT) and X-GMT (Xavier specific entrance) has a general awareness section.

Sir I was thinking to give my best for QA verbal and DM and ignore gk and essay writing so that I can ensure a gd pi call from XIMB. I am not that good at these sections so I wanted to devote all my time to these sections to improve on this and score good in xat.

I can prepare gk and essay writing once xat is done for further selection processes. Is it recommendable?

I agree that these sections need to be given first priority to get calls from good institutes. They are #1, no doubt. But to clear the interview rounds of many institutes, WAT and general awareness (especially in interview) is essential. So read the newspaper regularly and write a bit every few days. This won't affect your main preparation.

Yes do prepare exclusively for these after all written exams are over. But since many exams had general awareness (SNAP/TISS/CMAT) I kept preparing GK regularly beforehand also. Do as much as you can along with the main preparation. In some exams, it IS part of the main preparation. Devoting a lot of time is not needed. Just be regular.
