    02:36 PM

  • Profile Picture Aroop Sanyal

Lovelesh you can visit india business quiz. That site helped me a lot during preps. Also I suggest reading Economic times and watching CNN in your free time.

Hi! What is more important in a B-School interview - a great profile (co-currics, extra currics, achievements, awards etc.) or a great conversation/performance in the interview, where you talk/answer well about your above average profile?

    02:43 PM

  • Profile Picture Aroop Sanyal

XLRI generally has a trend of having more experienced people over freshers. If you want to you really have to ace the XAT.

    02:45 PM

Hi abhishek. All bschools tend to have different weigtages wrt cat score, profile, 10-12 grades. You might want to check that for the bschool you are aiming for.

  • Profile Picture Ashutosh Mohapatra

Hi Aroop, i have 93 in 10th, 77 in 12th and 78 in graduation. General engineer male candidate. Im expecting 97-98 percentile in cat. Can i expect a call from the newer iims?

    02:47 PM

  • Profile Picture Aroop Sanyal

Hi Ashutosh. With that range you should be getting calls from the new iims. Focus on the WAT for those instead of the GDs.

    02:48 PM

  • Profile Picture Ashutosh Mohapatra

Also is there a chance of a call from iim i or k with 98+ percentile?

    02:48 PM

If you have any extra curricular, maybe any state or national level representations you very well do have a chance.

    02:49 PM

  • Profile Picture Abhishek Nambiar

Hey Aroop! Thanks for the response. When you say weightage to profile, is that equivalent to weightage to Personal Interview. Case-in-point, IIM A has 50% weightage to PI, 10% to WAT and 40% to Composite Score. Where would 'profile' lie in this bifurcation?

    02:49 PM

  • Profile Picture Aroop Sanyal

WAT is written ability test. A lot of institutes are going for WATs instead of GDs.

Aroop, since you haven't taken this up yet and this is a general question. Considering we still have a couple of months before the GD/PI/WAT process, how can we prepare comprehensively to make sure we convert all the calls we get?

    02:55 PM

  • Profile Picture Aroop Sanyal

Hey Rishika, I'd suggest giving a lot of mock interviews to build up your confidence and test the sort of questions you might be asked. In addition also sit in GDs and write WATs on current affairs topics like demonetization, or Trumps presidency.

For making the most out of your time between now and joining your bschool you can take up coursera certifications on the domain of your choice. Or you could learn excel macros which I learnt and helped me a lot during assignments.

    03:01 PM

  • Profile Picture Aroop Sanyal

For XAT and SNAP the focus should be on time management and playing with cut offs. Sectional cut offs make it imperative to dedicate enough time to all sections. XAT quant is somewhat more tricky than CAT so dedicate some time on that.

    03:08 PM

  • Profile Picture Aroop Sanyal

Hi Rohit, early 99+ should secure new IIMs and IIM L,I,K calls. 99.5+ should convert a,b,c calls. Time and IMS both have interview prep as well. Do that, they are generally quite helpful.

    03:08 PM

    03:09 PM

WAT topics you can pick any current affairs topic and start writing on those. The more the you write the more comformatble you will be during the actual interview process.

    03:08 PM

    Profile Picture Aroop Sanyal

If you are working as of now then maybe you can keep it for a little later as the main focus should be giving interviews, GDs and WAT, in addition to brushing up your current affairs. If not working then you should take it up. Helps to justify the gap as well.

You can probably sign up for a new language. (something I did and really enjoyed as well) You could also look for more domain specific courses, like NCFM certifications for finance.

    03:13 PM

    Profile Picture Aroop Sanyal

It is indeed a challenge then. But if time management is your forte, then go for it. You might run out of time at the very end is the only caveat if you leave it for later.

    03:15 PM

    Profile Picture Aroop Sanyal

In that case you should mention it as an extra curricular. Some institutes would want pretty much everything in your resume to be backed by certifications so you should check wrt to the institute you are applying.

MBA life is generally packed with assignments, quizzes, placement related activities and competitions. In addition if you wish to take up additional responsibilities it leave you with little time. But these two years really teach you how to multi task and efficiently manage your time! :)

    03:18 PM

Ideally not. You can still sit for other companies but the value add will be less and the uncertainty would be high ( if the company will allow you to sit for all roles despite being in HR)

    03:22 PM

  • Profile Picture Saikat Roy

Better still can you give me an idea of what sort of courses make sense for an MBA aspirant?

    03:21 PM

So this would depend how well you are at story telling. If you wish to diversity and convince the interviewer that you want to explore digital marketing and financial markets then you should. IT consulting is also in high demand these days, so if you have high work ex in IT and wish to move into IT consulting then you can stay on in the IT roles (courses)

A certification can help you justify the gap. I too had a 4 month gap in which i was learning spanish and did a couple of certifications. You can always justify that you want to prepare for the MBA life by experiencing the different domains and give you a head start at B-school life.
