Hey Ashik! It is a great idea on the contrary! The mocks, if nothing, preps you to sit in one spot without disturbance for the duration of the exam. Keeping your body and mind prepped up for an exam scenario is very much advisable, and mocks help you do that

Hello Yashika! The most useful thing you can do right now is identify the topics which you are good at. This is a very personal thing, and you do this exercise all by yourself. For example, I knew I was bad at probability, and there was not much I could do about it in the last weeks. Then, the next step is to focus only on the 'strength' topics. The idea is to maximise the attempt and accuracy in these topics. Keep a ready reckoner of formulae, preferably in your handwriting, in a language you are comfortable in.Revise them just before going to bed. Simple things, might sound funny even, but then we alone know best what is our strength and weakness :)

Hi! Is taking mocks in the last week not a good idea?

    02:36 PM

    Profile Picture Aastha Sneha

Having said that, please avoid the mocks in case you see a drastic drop in scores. My practical experience, plus those of my friends, suggests that maintaining your belief and confidence is THE single most important thing right now. For example, I am easily affected by dropping scores, so I would avoid too many mocks, just so that I don't lose the faith in my own preparation. :)

Hello Kaveri! The exam is a bit different from CAT, no doubt. While the 'difficulty level' is a very subjective issue, in general, IIFT paper requires speed in solving. There is a section on General Knowledge which is heavily drawn from Current Affairs.

Hey Ashik, This is definitely to be done, no doubt. But at the same time, it is advisable to take 2-4 mocks now, before the exam day. There are still around 2 weeks to go, and you wouldn't want to lose the practice streak. And like I had said, mocks help you sit quietly and concentrate. Trust me, that is not so easy in this digital age!

But while analyzing the paper I am able to answer the questions correctly. Please suggest me how to deal with VARC section with great accuracy.

Good Evening. I was curious to know what was your preparation strategy strategy 2 weeks prior to CAT? Can you give some pointers regarding how to tackle VARC ?

    02:52 PM

    Profile Picture Aastha Sneha

Hello Sai! 2 weeks before the exam, I had taken time out to make a list of my strength areas. This strategy helps you choose which questions to LEAVE during the exam, and believe me, that is as important as solving. Then I had gone about brushing up concepts/formulae/solved examples, and noted them down in my own hand. This helps you internalise them, and you would be confident in tackling the questions from those topics. VARC is very intuitive at times, in my opinion. It comes with a lot of reading and a lot of practice. I would advise you to take sectional tests, just to keep up with the practice. Try setting a timer and read up paragraphs from newspapers. That helps in speeding up RCs.

Hello Saibal, To begin with, do not be disheartened by the mock scores. They are intended to be tougher than the actual exam. For RCs, I would suggest 2 things: 1. Focus on the accuracy. Attempt less questions, but only the ones you are more sure of. That helps in reducing negatives. 2. Try reading up paragraphs from newspapers, set to a timer. This technique helps one improve reading and grasping speed.

    02:59 PM

    Profile Picture Aastha Sneha

Hey Ansh! The choice to go for work ex or not is very personal, depending upon where in life the person is currently. No, do not bear this notion that work ex is a deterrent to marketing placements; certainly not a one year work ex. If he/she is slightly low on acad records, the work experience may prove to be the 'spike' in his/her profile. But if he/she is confident about prep this year, he/she should take the exam, since work ex would mean less time for prep next year. I would advise you to seek answer to this questions on other, more relevant chats as well.

    03:00 PM

    Profile Picture Aastha Sneha

Hello Aishwarya! Please do not be tensed, we all are here to help you out :) Yes, the question pattern is different in the online format. The DI questions give you charts/data from which simple calculations/reading of the data gives you the answers. The LR section is more intuitive, and I would say, more 'fun' too :D Both the sections require a lot of practice, for time management and accuracy. I would suggest you focus on taking sectional tests for these in the coming weeks, since it is more about practice and less about theory.

Hey Aishwarya., The questions are not available because the tests were held over different dates (over a period of one month in 2013), hence the papers were all different. But the difficulty level and mix of easy-difficult questions is the same. The mocks are a good representation of the actual exams and they are derived from past experiences. Hence,, focus on good mock tests. For DI/LR, take mock sectional tests only for this section. that would give you a fair idea, better than the study materials.
