The first two months went by in complaining about the horrible hostel food and how the laundry lady cannot wash our clothes properly. But the independence in college was crazy. Soon lectures became fun because of the friends in a class. We acquired a new superpower of texting in class without getting caught. Found an interest in badminton (thanks to the awesome sports facilities of my college). I still remember waking up 5 am in the morning to walk to the court and play badminton with a cute senior (“sports facilities” was a lie guys; the senior was the main reason for my badminton love).
It was a lot of fun till the first exam and assignment week. When that started we understood what last-minute studies actually meant.
Then, we had a week off after exams. After returning from home with a few extra pounds, we came back to college and... club recruitments! College now seemed like a completely different place. It was buzzing with posters, excitement, and seniors.
Clubs are student interest groups, which are completely run by the students without any interference from college authorities. There is a club to meet every student's interests, hobbies and passion. They range from dance, dramatics, student projects, astronomy to the official banana eating club.
I found myself at MTN, the media body of Manipal, in the arts and graphics department, and as an actor at the dramatics society, AAINA. Life changed drastically from there. I was very shy and never thought I can open up or sing and dance in front of 30 odd seniors. But I did. I opened up. I became very good friends with the seniors at my dramatics society and they soon became family with whom I am currently traveling all over the country performing at different colleges.
