Founded in 2005, Reddit is one of the oldest Social Media Platform which has withstood the competition. However, most people I've met criticise Reddit's UI and find it difficult to get used to. That being said, those who love Reddit swear by its fun, informative and utility elements. With more than 10,000 subreddits, there's something for everybody out there!
There are a lot of inside jokes and unspoken rules, and abbreviations alien to non-users get thrown around all the time. These reasons and a bunch of others might make you feel unwelcome when you open the front page of Reddit. Worry not! Here is a list of subreddits you can "subscribe" to, to get you started on the journey.
1. TIL [Today I Learned]
We learn something new every day, whether it is about a noble deed someone did 100 years ago, or a fact left out in your history textbook or something the politicians don't want you to know. It can also be a random fact about the human body, or some badass ritual people follow in a certain region. If you adapt well to randomness and weirdness, this subreddit will make you go "Ah" every time you come across a post on it. Link here - https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/#newlink
2. Writing Prompts
Love reading and/or writing? Hit the subscribe button on this subreddit! As the name suggests, people give writing prompts and you get to write and read other people's stories. Read it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/WritingPrompts/
3. Life Pro Tips
We all have a few tricks to get through life easy. This subreddit is an amalgamation of all these tricks which will make your life better everywhere - college, home, shopping mall, office... Because smart work is better than hard work. Follow the subreddit here - https://www.reddit.com/r/LifeProTips/
4. Zen Habits
Self-improvement is one of the crucial aspects of life. This subreddit has posts on habits that will make you more efficient, productive, and, on the bad days, teach you how to stay sane. Follow here - http://reddit.com/r/zenhabits
5. ELI5 [Explain Like I'm 5]
This subreddit is my personal favorite! Very often, when we are curious, we google a question only to find explanation full of jargons and end up feeling more confused. On ELI5, you can post questions and receive several easy, simple explanations that will give you a better understanding of the topic. Posts range from science to psychology.
