The marks required change year by year based on difficulty, go through past 2 year papers and cut offs to get a clear picture. Revise the formulae and do the questions from previous xat papers to get a flavour of them

Hi.. Thank you for taking your time out. In XAT there are negative marks for the unanswered questions as well, but the first 12 unanswered question does not have this constraint. Is the 12 questions overall in the paper or 12 questions per section ?

Hi, can you please help us regarding time management in xat

    03:44 PM

    Profile Picture Nihal Reddy

In the first 170 minutes, hunt the easy questions ASAP, I suggest giving 50 mins approx each to different sections starting with the one which is your stronghold. Verify your answers in the 20 mins and also look into unattempted questions. I marked the answers section wise. answer GK questions in 5-7 mins and first structure the essay in about 5 mins, and then go ahead implementing it

Hi, I solved a few previous year xat papers, there were a few questions were none of the options were correct..in the actual exam if i have spend some time on a question and I find out that all the options are incorrect, should I attempt the nearest option (will it result in negative marking ?) or leave the question? What happens in such questions? are these questions removed rom the total no. of questions or is everybody who attempts them get a one mark or everybody gets -.25 ?

    03:44 PM

    Profile Picture Nihal Reddy

I started in February 2015 I used to work for about 5 hours a week in the initial months. I took TIME coaching. I attended all classes and all mock exams. Back tehn I was in college and had ample time for everything. from august i started working for 2 hours each day. I was confidant about quant. I mostly concentrated on VARC and then DI. I used to analyse each mock on wednesdays to know my weaknesses and worked accordingly.

I m scoring very low in verbal section accuracy is very low around 30-40% and it is bringing down my score i m thinking to attempt more of Decision making and quant and avoid questions from verbal section. Is this strategy fine to get a call from IMT GHAZIABAD

    04:02 PM

  • Profile Picture Arushi Kant

My question is if i do find out that the question is incorrect is it better to attempt any option or leave the question? is it possible that they give one mark for just attempting or give one mark for the nearest option?

Hi , For 2 years I have been missing out on XAT. (95.3 (Missed on DM cutoff) & 94.5 (Individual cutoff were cleared but not overall) respectively in 15 and 16). In previous years question papers also I am getting marks in similar range. Just hovering around the cut offs. What would your suggestion be to take it to get that extra 3-4 marks?

You have to make sure that you get the minimum qualification marks for each section. I dont know the exact criteria of IMT Ghaziabad. Check if they have sectional cutoff in their criteria. Else your startegy works fine

Also what strategy should I maintain for Decision Making ? Currently I am following most ethical top most and no action on last.

They make sure that all the test takers are on same page. All get the marks for that question or none irrespective of them attempting it

Try to increase your number of attempts, try to go after the easy questions. Try to squeeze 15 minutes towards the end to verify the attempted qusetions. Do not make any mistakes while circling the answers

Most ethical is highest priority but no action might not be the last, it changes depending on the context. Moreover the DM questions are little tricky so read all the options twice before zeroing in on one option.

Practice I practised from time material, many a times i used to go wrong. I took class room coaching at TIME and it helped me. Analysing the solutions of mock exams helped me in refining my thought process. DO read the editorial columns of HIndu news paper and know th meanings of new words. This is a long process not for XAT exam this sunday
