What's the difference between the profiles and packages offered at IIM I and A, B & C?

    02:35 PM

    Profile Picture Nikhil Murthy

    1. The difference is small. Average package at IIMI is 14 LPA, while that at IIM A,B&C would be around 17-18. But, again the batch size of IIM I is the largest, because of which the average comes down. 2. In terms of profiles, it is small again. Good profiles come to IIM I as well, which come to A,B&C, but they may not be offered by the best firm for that profile. Otherwise, IIM I and K has almost similar placements as A,B&C.

How much the margin of difference between top iims and new iims in terms of education, and scope after MBA ?

    02:38 PM

    Profile Picture Nikhil Murthy

    1. Education there may not be a huge difference, because there are visiting profs, from the top IIMs who teach at the new IIMs. And, also the New IIMs are mentored by the old ones, which assists in maintaining the education standards. 2. Scope after MBA, there is a difference. The old ones have better placements and a better brand name in the industry. So, on your resume an Old IIM would have more importance. But, at your workplace, it just depends on your performance. Not much importance is given to where you graduated from.

I don't think its a good idea. The new IIMs are yet to build a brand name, which will take some time. So, as of now top private schools are better.

I,L and K would have the same rating. A,B and C have a few tie-ups which are excellent, something like maybe the best university in Germany. So, the difference between I,LK and A,B,C is small.

    03:01 PM

    Profile Picture Nikhil Murthy

    1. Private institutes like IIFT, NMIMS, SIBM are better 'for now', till the new IIMs build their brand names. 2. The private colleges mentioned above have better career prospects and placements, because they are old and have maintained connections with firms from a substantial amount of time now. This gives them an advantage.

Hi Nikhil.Wat about the difference between nmims blore and Mumbai.and also between iift ,symbiosis, and newiims, nmims??

    03:07 PM

    Profile Picture Nikhil Murthy

    1. NMIMS Mumbai is better. The Bangalore one is new, but otherwise also the Mumbai is better. 2. If you want to get into fin the IIFT is a good option, Symbiosis is good for marketing. Both these are better than new IIMs and NMIMS. NMIMS has huge batch size, hence I would chose the other over NMIMS.

I would select BM. Because if you can move to HR later even if take BM. I always feel specialization in business studies don't make a huge difference given the vastness of the domain. But, if you are sure of getting into HR then go for HRM.
