Hey Deepika... How is the life at IIM ? As it is so renowed college , whats different there ?

@kashyap! Firstly in a institute with great minds and like minded people, it is a great opportunity for one to network and learn from peers. It's always challenging and the exposure one gets in IIMB is most valuable. I personally feel Iimb is less hectic than IIMA. Compared to IIM L, IIM B gets a lot better companies for placements.

Deepika Is there any age constraint for MBA I have 2.8 yrs of work ex and currently 25 yrs Left the job Your views on age and profile of MBA students

Also suggest me Is it a wise decision to wait for one more year to bell the CAT and join the Ivy League schools Or just go with whatever B school that comes my way

    02:37 PM

  • Profile Picture Kashyap Shah

Yeah I have the same question.

On a lighter note, I guess guys leaving the so called 'corporate' jobs are as common as love failures these days

Hello deepika, continuing ishwar question.I have also listened that for students whose work experience is more than 2.5 years the placement gets difficult.I want to know whether its true ?

Good evening sir can you please tell me if IIM Bangalore is a good place if I am keen on finance because I was told that most of the companies that visit IIM B are e commerce companies? So can you please advise me on this regard sir?

  • Profile Picture Deepika Mallyk

@ishwar. Iimb has actually 22 to 24 months of average work-ex and very less percentage of freshers compared to other iims. 2.8 yrs of work experience is decent and good because u get to sit in laterals placement process in most of iims. There is no age constraint as such at any iims

I have no issues with placements......I have the experience of how placement cell functions I'm just keen on the age, relevance of work ex and mainly the NEED to do MBA from an Ivy League school that too with a focus on PI coz...the entry into a B school itself is a herculean task....Rest usually follows

@kashyap Iimb doesn't offer any major in particular fields of marketing or operations or finance. In iimb, u get to choose subjects depending on ur interest. And first two semesters are common for all... Which is same in most of the iims. Also if u are interested in specialization, IIM L offers specialization degrees

Hey. I just want to know that do our past records matter much in our admission to IIM's? Like 10th, 12th and graduate grades.

    02:44 PM

  • Profile Picture Ishwar Chandra

Thanks deepika for clarifying. And one more question The gap after work ex....I guess it needs to be addressed during the PI and lateral placements as well What's your take on gap after work ex Is it just the 2 years that you spend at a B school or the past haunts you forever

    02:44 PM

  • Profile Picture Deepika Mallyk

@ishwar. It's always a choice. I'm a fresher myself. But I personally think it's always better to wait and get in top B-schools... Because of the kind of companies and the no.Of companies that come for final placements are bigger in them. Also opportunities after u pass out will be better.

    02:45 PM

  • Profile Picture Deepika Mallyk

@prakhar. It depends on ones work ex and personal achievements also. As such mostly people with high work ex don't get shortlisted for marketing roles... Rest of the companies are always open for them. So it's not true that placement gets tough.

@kris. Firstly I'm a lady. And Kris... Most of the finance companies which come to other top iims also come to IIMB. It's not that only e-commerce companies visit.

We all are conditioned to 'choosing' that comes from our DNA i.e, being an engineer Whereas real life is completely different....We need to make a decision We shouldn't choose The placement culture at engineering colleges tunes you to sit for multiple companies and at the age of 21 you choose a company to join after having 2/3 offers at hand That is where most of the engineers including me get confused....coz we loose touch with real corporate standards outside But that's a different story and that is a completely different debate for another day All I wanted to say is just DECIDE Not CHOOSE from whatever little experience that I gained I may be completely wrong in saying this....But that is what I have observed

@ past records have different weightages differently in different iims. IiMb specifically has greater weightage to academics compared to other iims. U can find the exact numbers on net

    02:52 PM

  • Profile Picture Deepika Mallyk

@ishwar it's not very hard to think that they haunt u forever. Once u join a company and after few years, gap shouldnt matter. But a decent explanation for the answer will save u in all interviews. I don't think that would be the sole reason for one to reject a candidate

    02:54 PM

  • Profile Picture Ishwar Chandra

Thanks for explaining in detail, Deepika.

    02:55 PM

  • Profile Picture Deepika Mallyk

@ Ishwar I agree with u on this. Many also leave their jobs in less than 2 years due to confusion and lack of exposure

@ Great Ishwar. All the best

It's easy to corrupt your mind. Whereas it's difficult to corrupt your emotion. All that we see around us is your mind getting corrupted and by the time you realize that, your emotions are wasted and hence you get corrupted too. I think MODI needs to focus more on banning false promises offered everywhere instead of banning 500 and 1000 notes. Just an analogy. No offense to anyone.
