Hi Ankita, Do not go by the scores of the mocks. There is a vast difference in the difficulty level of them and the actual exam. By the way, which mocks have you given?

It is important to revise those mocks that were bad. Also it is very important to create a strategy for the exam. For example: Which topics are you weak in? From the mocks, which kind of questions did you score the least in? CAT is an exam in which question selection has to be very judicious. I would advice you to make a note of all your difficult areas you faced in mocks. So that you would be judicious in your question selection on the D-Day.

quant is a little tough for me.. how do i increase my attempts across various sections?

    03:46 PM

  • Profile Picture IIM Rohtak

Hey Bosco, there are easy as well as average level questions in all the sections. So it all boils down to how much of those questions you can attempt. Do not get stuck on a single question and try to focus on your strengths. Do not try anything new now, and revise the mocks that you've already attempted.

Is it wise to practice qa from previous cat papers or should one focus on revising mocks? What should the last week prep be like?

Hi Somila, although previous year CAT papers do help you in getting some idea about exam yet focusing on mocks is advisable in the week leading up to the exam

Good Evening. I am getting 85-95 percentile in the IMS simcats. I feel that I still have the potential to improve 20-30 marks in the total marks than I am getting in mocks. But I not able to give the best shot in mocks, during revision I was able to do most of them. The question I want to ask is if I keep my confidence peaks on my D-Day and give my best shot, can I reach 98+? . How true are the mock percentile indicative of real cat score?

Somila, in the last week, your main focus should be on revising the mocks and attempting a few in the first 3-4 days. It will be advisable not to learn new concepts right now. It will be advisable that you don't appear for mocks in the last 2 days before CAT.

Hi Bosco, it will be advisable not to compare scores from mocks. For one the number of participants in CAT is huge compared to mocks creating a difference between the percentiles of mocks and actual CAT. Even the scores which would depend on the relative performance of the aspirants and there is little certainty to predict the relationship between the two. What is important no is you focus on your level of preparation you've done so far, be confident and give it your best shot. Although just to give you an estimate, I used to score around 100 in AIMCATs.

Hi Sai, if you keep your confidence up , 99+ is also achievable. The level of sincerity and focus is also very high on D-Day so give it your best shot. Mocks are not always true indicators of real cat score as the level of each mock test varies which effects your score and also number of participant in CAT is very large compared to mock test which also increases one's percentile

Ankita, TIME mocks in general are a bit more difficult than actual CAT paper. Aspirants have seen increase in CAT scores over mock scores. Just keep revising the past mocks. Don't go for new mocks in the last 1-2 days. All the best.

Hi Sai, Selection in IIM RRRTKU mainly depends on your WAT PI performance. According to last year trends, 97.5+ and you will stand a good chance.

I would advice to revise those that you're strong in. Focusing on your weaknesses at this stage would result in panic which would be very detrimental to you on the day of the exam. Pick up last 4-5 mocks, go through the topics that you've done very well in. Prepare a SWOT analysis based on that. Focus on what you do the best, ensure that those areas won't fail you on the day of the exam. Just get proper rest before the exam, have a positive attitude walk into the hall with confidence and you will be brilliant on the D-Day! PS: Reach your exam venue at least one hour before the exam starts.
