Hi Mohit , GK is a vast section. You can scan last 5-6 years' papers and identify the trends accordingly. An aspirant should be thorough with current affairs as well static GK.

The placements process for both Delhi and Kolkata happens together . For now , focus on clearing the entrance exam with a sound strategy in place .

@Abhi jeet, For final selection, no. of different parameters come into play. You have to score well at an aggregate level which consists of following components with their respective weightage as follows: Entrance Exam: 55% Essay: 10% Group Discussion: 10% Interview: 23% Gender Diversity: 2% Note, this is as per last year's process and it may change this year. At this point I would advice that you should focus on getting a very score in IIFT entrance test and not worry about final selection. Entrance exam score have always had the highest weightage and would matter the most for final selection.

Hi Simarjeeet! Time management would depend upon your strengths and weaknesses. Start with the sections you which are your strengths and wrap them up quickly to leave ample time for the weak areas.

Hi Simarjeet.. Hi Simarjeet! The break up totally depends on the strengths and weakness you possess. We would however suggest you to spend good amount of time on sections that reward you more and you are comfortable with!

  • Profile Picture Bhavika Asnani

Hello Sravan, do make sure that you attempt the RC section, as it holds a lot of weightage most times. Also, as observed, IIFT RCs are not Critical Reasoning intensive, which take up most of your time. Read the question first and then the RC, if it suits you, for solving IIFT RCs.

    03:44 PM

  • Profile Picture Mayank Jain

Hi Akash , there is no hard and fast rule for time allotment. One should scan the exam and make a suitable strategy accordingly. For example , in last year's exam , Lr was easy and DI was comparatively time consuming . Thus a flexible strategy comes in handy while entering into exam.

    03:49 PM

  • Profile Picture Rohit Kumar

@Prerna It's difficult to predict the month that would be important in current affairs. I would suggest you to go through all the major events of last year if possible. You may also want to focus on the static portion of GK that comes in IIFT EE and forms a major part.

    03:50 PM

  • Profile Picture Gautam Kumar

How likely is IIFT to follow the same pattern that was followed last year ?

    03:50 PM

  • Profile Picture Akash P

this year too expected cutoffs will be around 48-50?

    03:51 PM

  • Profile Picture Gautam Kumar

How much weightage is given to 10-12th marks and work experience in final selection ? also any relief given to commerce background on diversity grounds ?

    03:53 PM

  • Profile Picture Mayank Jain

Hi Akash , it depends on the difficulty level of the exam. Cutoffs varied significantly in last 4 years . 2012 : 50 marks , 2013 : 46.5 marks , 2014 : 38.5 marks , 2015 : 48.5 marks , 2016 : ? marks . Thus for now , brush up your material and be flexible about the strategy to take on the D-Day .

    03:55 PM

  • Profile Picture Rohit Kumar

@Gautam As per last year, there was no weightage given to 10-12th marks and work experience in final selection. Also, no extra points was given for academic diversity.

    thank you!

    03:57 PM

  • Profile Picture Bhavika Asnani

Hi Gautam, the same paper pattern could be followed. If it isn't, it would be a different for everybody, and not just you, and percentiles would vary accordingly. The usual variation is in the number of questions, weightage per section, and the sectional clubbing. If it's more deviant, again, it would be the same for everyone. Hope for the best and be preapared for the worst. All the best! :)

  • Profile Picture Mayur Arora

I am aware that you guys are first year students, so you might be aware about this issue: Last year in IIFT exam, 2 DI sets had some problems related to some figures given wrong or name of the quantity mentioned wrong, This led to huge hue and cry. What was done by IIFT to take care of this? Accepting all answers as correct or what?

    04:03 PM

  • Profile Picture Gautam Kumar

    Thanks Rohit and Bhavika !

    04:03 PM

  • Profile Picture Nidhi Maheshwari

    ??

    04:06 PM

  • Profile Picture Rohit Kumar

@Nidhi You should not worry too much about the min no. of questions to be attempted. Every year is a different year and might require you adjust your strategy and give your best performance. If you look at the cut offs, it varied significantly in last 4 years . 2012 : 50 marks , 2013 : 46.5 marks , 2014 : 38.5 marks , 2015 : 48.5 marks , So focus on giving your best possible shot and do not go with a pre determined mindset. All the best.

    04:09 PM

  • Profile Picture Mayank Jain

Hi Mayur , IIFT takes appropriate care about the issues related to the factual correctness of questions. Every aspirant receives the same question paper , thus if someone founds some doubts about the factual incorrectness ,he/she should skip the question and move to the next question. All the best for the exam .

Hii Mayank, I am a PWD candidate (Low Vision); What you suggest how many que should i mark correct? (Reading a line with 10 words takes 10 secs)

    04:14 PM

  • Profile Picture Mayank Jain

Hi Vinay , I took the following strategy in last year's exam : Initially I scanned the paper and was able to gauge that, if not handled correctly, DI could be a tough call even for a well prepared candidate . 1) I started my exam with GK , as here the ROI is high . Either you know an answer or you don't. Here I was able to attempt 18 questions in 5 minutes with 13 correct - Score 5.65. 2)Then I moved to VA-RC, invested 40 minutes (15 minutes in VA and 25 minutes in RC), and attempted 19 in VA and all 16 questions in RC, correcting 16 in the former with 13 in the latter - Score 23.26 3)Then I finished off QA section in 30 minutes with an attempt of 18 questions with 15 correct -Score 14.01 4)Lastly I moved to LRDI where i scanned both sections carefully and decided to start off with LR as that was the easier of the two areas . I completed the whole of LR (20 questions) with 19 correct and DI (4 Questions) with 3 correct - Score 16.67 in 30(LR)+10(DI)= 40 minutes Section selection should be based on strength as well ROI .Since GK and VA are considered to be less time consuming , they should be attempted first. Do the thorough analysis of mocks and keep the strategy flexible.

@Vinay. See you need to be smart during the exams. Try to maximise your score. Try to first attempt the section that are your strengths and then go to the subsequent sections. Leave the questions which you find lengthy or tough at the first look. Come to them back again section wise. Keep a watch on your time and be calm! Don't panic that's is the most important thing on the D-Day!

@Nidhi. It isn't fixed every year! Last year it was DI plus Verbal and other section was RC plus Logic

    04:23 PM

  • Profile Picture Gowtham Gopal

Is there any scoop for RC passages in IIFT paper? I feel it is too lengthy.

    04:24 PM

  • Profile Picture Nidhi Maheshwari

    @manthan thanks!

    04:24 PM

  • Profile Picture Bhavika Asnani

Hello Priyank, it's more of a convenience than a burden that the paper is 20 pages long, the questions are in a large font and identifying the type of question should be sufficient to help you scan the paper and identify your strengths, choosing questions accordingly. Also, completing 4-5 pages of GK in the first 10 minutes should be a help. In case of the other sections, focus on the one you think is your strength and pick and choose. I hope you have attempted a few mocks to get you acquainted to the pattern. All the best!

What do u guys suggest for last min GK preparation

    04:32 PM

  • Profile Picture Manthan Joshi

@Archana..first of all..remember this...don't attempt anything in GK which your are not totally sure of! For the eve, I would say, just brush up any imp notes you would have made during these days or cover some major news events from the standard publications. Don't take unnecessary stress on the eve of the exam!

    04:33 PM

  • Profile Picture Archana V

    Thanks manthan!

    04:33 PM

  • Profile Picture Bhavika Asnani

Hello Nachiket, IIFT allows either pencil or pen to be used in the paper, and yes, you have to colour circles, for which I recommend encircling answers as you solve, except for maybe the GK section which you can encircle in one go, just after completing the session.

    04:34 PM

  • Profile Picture Mayank Jain

Hi Archana , brush up the current affairs of last 1 year. As IIFT focuses on International business , focus on international organisations as well and go through topics like country, capital & currency , books and authors , economic terms , sports related , international prizes like Oscars , national prizes etc .Apart from it , go through last 5-6 years IIFT papers to extract more topics .All the best for the exam.

Hi Gowtham. The RC passaegs asked in IIFT exam are lengthy. However, they are easy to read and if you have practiced decent number of RCs, you can just skim through the passage. The answers are also fairly easy to spot. Generally the RCs give very high ROI. Therefore, I would suggest you not to leave them and attempt as many as possible. All the best!
