Hey, IIFT has a legacy brand name to its kitty plus the differentiation of focusing on trade and commerce. It's avg package (around 15lpa) is considerably good and hosts many top companies. Alum, peer network plays a lot of importance in career. Plus it is located in a good location that helps maintain ties with companies Down side is high cost (which can be ignored, since u get easy loans and scholarship)

Which b school to choose among baby iims and imi/imt/ximb?

i'm from delhi itself, and one question which has arisen in my mind is whether i accept a good college now or i try again, for example if i get iift or mdi this year, should i accept it or try again after 3 years for fms ( i have average acads which don't help my case for iim)(also i am an engineer so i lose the academic diversirt points as well.

Depends on what u r looking for from an MBA. Baby IIMs have only low batch size, low fees and brand name (which in the long run wont matter, since HRs would be acquainted with trying to differentiate within IIMs in itself) XIMB has a vibrant ecosystem for learning and career growth (especially HR). Also, due to established system and large batch size, u would get a good college experience

I would like to point out that even IIMC gives very little regards to Acads. Also, Selection criteria keeps changing on yearly basis - more or less. Also, why after 3 years, u can try next year in itself. If you are a fresher or just one year work ex - I would suggest u to try again next year. Else, if you are in desperation to do MBA, go for second tier colleges. Btw MDI is one of the best colleges and even better than many IIMs. It is having stellar placements as well as good batch profile

Consider my predicament...the thing is I am a CA & CS doing MBA to enter strategies ...i.e the only significance MBA holds is the brand name which only handful of colleges provide and i can't go to say NM because it will be a step down but IIMs i.e even new will do .. what are your thoughts?

How good is NMIMS Mumbai ? Is it a wise decision to go into it if not getting admission into any of the premier b schools

Hey, for a commoner, all IIMs are the same. Maybe u can please ur aunt or a girl with brand IIM. But, companies realise the three (soon 4) level differentitaion in IIMs. Hence, even students are specifying the IIM such as "IIMC". Moreover, there are quite a few good private colleges such as XLRI, MDI, SPJAIN, JBIMS which have good college system - Learning, activities, placements and have location advantage. I would suggest you to ask yourself any other attributes u want to consider before making decision - such as exploring small town, batch size, strategy companies visiting these campuses

Hey Riya, being a B-School aspirant please do not make the mistake of clubbing all IIMs into one category. Few top private schools are - XLRI, MDI, SPJAIN. FMS, IIFT (gvt yet non IIM) are also top. Second category (similar to IIM K,I,S) are NMIMS, DMS, SJSOM, NITIE

If you really want to do MBA, go for it. Coz lot of things change in 3 years. U may lose interest, not find time to prepare etc. If u think u like the job, wait for 3 years, since it would add value to your CV. But it would be dicey, since suppose you could not score well in the first attempt of 4 years, you would be in a tight situation to even consider less better colleges such as XIMB, since you have waited 3 years (psychological) and doing PGP PGDM (flagship programme) with 5+ years of work ex is not wise

Hey Akhil, NMIMS is striving on its fading legacy. Not very good road ahead. Could you please mention what other B-Schools u want to compare it with. If u hv shortlist from DMS, SJSOM, IIM Tirchy, Rohtak, Ranchi - they seem better to me

top 20 colleges? Well, rankings keep changing. Top second tier colleges would be good. I would suggest u to focus hard on ur CAT score and leave the rest for later after u get shortlists
